Georgina Catacora-Vargas (Ph.D. in Agroecology). Professor of Agroecology at the Academic Peasant Unit "Tiahuanacu" of the Bolivian Catholic University and Research Associate of AGRUCO at the University of San Simón (Bolivia). She is currently President of the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology, a member of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food), and an advisor to the Agroecology Fund. Georgina is also a member of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Farmers' Rights under FAO-ITPGRFA and the Compliance Committee of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety under the Convention on Biological Diversity. Her work is transdisciplinary, focusing on socio-ecological systems around agroecology, biodiversity and food systems, with a gender (regarding women) and human rights (regarding farmers' rights) approach. She has past and current experience in drafting and implementing regulations and policies on biodiversity, biosafety of modern biotechnology and agroecology. She is an advocate for youth rights and art as a transformative research and pedagogical strategy.
