Dr. Makinde John is a Senior Research Scientist at the Department of Animal Science, Federal University, Gashua, Nigeria. He holds a bachelors in Agriculture from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, a Master of Science degree in Animal Nutrition from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a PhD degree in Animal Nutrition from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria. Dr. John has expertise in herbivore nutritional science, feed production technology, smart livestock agriculture, climate change, toxicology, methane mitigation strategies in ruminants, and data analyses. He has conducted a number of studies, particularly in the area of animal nutrition with a focus on food security and human well-being. He has over fifty journal articles published in high impacts local and internationals (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/John-Makinde/research; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4561-954X). He has also participated in a number of donor-funded projects including World Bank and European Union and has worked with the researchers from the Universidad Politecnica De Madrid, Spain and University of Maryland, USA. He was awarded the 2019 European Union - MOUNAF Intra African mobility Scholarship at Universite De Kisangani, DR Congo. Dr. Makinde's current project titled “Converting Typha (Typha spp) threat in Nigeria irrigation schemes to opportunity to improve livelihoods of farmers” is aimed at improving the living standard of livestock farmers in the Hadejia Valley Irrigation Scheme, Jigawa State, Nigeria. It is a collaborative World Bank Project among researchers from University of Maryland, USA (Prof. Richard Kohn); Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain (Prof. Fernando Escribano; Prof. Eva Iglesias); National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Service and Federal University, Gashua, Nigeria (www.typhaproject.com).
