Online survey “Central Asia activities on Climate-Smart Agriculture”
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to take part in the online survey “Central Asia activities on Climate-Smart Agriculture”. This is a joint activity of the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and four divisions of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (viz. climate and environment, agricultural development economics, partnerships and capacity development divisions).
Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) is an integrative approach, which addresses the interlinked challenges of achieving sustainable agricultural development for food security under climate change.
It aims to support countries and other actors to develop the needed policy, technical and investment conditions to achieve the three objectives of:
- sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and equitable increases in incomes;
- adapting and building resilience of agricultural and food systems to climate change;
- and reducing the negative impacts of agriculture, in particular by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture.

Objectives of the survey
The survey aims at taking stock of challenges posed by climate change to the agriculture sector in Central Asian countries. It also aims at collecting available information and data to provide an informative picture of the context and of how Climate Smart Agriculture could help addressing key challenges. Results of the survey will be extremely useful for FAO to start new activities and interventions aimed at transitioning towards suitable Climate Smart Agriculture options that can help to simultaneously address the challenges of climate change and food security.
This survey will help:
Identify the current country context, including challenges, constraints as well as what is already in place and available with regard to the three objectives of CSA;
Assess needs and priorities for the adoption and uptake of CSA interventions.
The findings from this survey will feed into country case studies, which will be prepared for the Central Asia CSA conference that will take place in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) from 12 to 14 July 2016. Furthermore, the survey results will contribute to the work group discussions on identifying opportunities for CSA interventions in the countries of Central Asia.
The survey is open until Friday, 17 June 2016.
