如今，农业和粮食体系面临一系列前所未有的挑战。我们必须在经济、能源、环境、粮食和社会等各种新出现和持续存在的危机背景下为不断增长的全球人口提供食物。这些危机包括冲突、自然灾害、价格波动、市场不安全、大规模移民、健康危机等，所有这些都因气候变化、自然资源枯竭、城市化快速推进、膳食模式和生计系统转变而加剧。
面对这些挑战，如今比以往任何时候都更需要建立包容、可持续且有韧性的农业粮食体系，促进农业部门充分发挥能力，提高成效。粮农组织认识到，为实现这一目标，我们必须应对致使许多国家农业部门表现不佳的长期不平等问题。我们需要与农村女性、男性、女童和男童合作，增强其权能。
