Regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs) are mandated to establish records of vessels authorized to operate in their areas of application, as well as records of vessels engaged in IUU fishing. Fleet registers support coordinated efforts to prevent vessels known to have engaged in IUU fishing activities from operating undetected, simply moving from one marine region to another.
Adopted by the Forty-Eight session of the Commission (4-9 November 2025), the GFCM IUU vessel list is a database where information on vessels presumed to have carried out illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in the GFCM area of application is stored.
