Aquaculture Demonstrative Centre online - Demonstrative training on sturgeon aquaculture

Following the success of previous Aquaculture Demonstrative Centre (ADC) training programmes, gaining hundreds of participants from over 28 countries, the GFCM, in collaboration with experts from the Central Fisheries Research Institute (SUMAE) is organizing a five-day online training course on sturgeon aquaculture from 15 to 19 November 2021.

The training course aims to broaden the knowledge of farmers, officials, researchers and technicians from fisheries and aquaculture departments, research institutions and initiatives. Many aspects of sturgeon will be covered, including: Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii), Starry sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus), Danube sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii), as well as farming methods, such as broodstock and hatchery management, larval rearing and fry care, risk management, production techniques and technology used.

The objectives of the course are to:

  • Promote the understanding and sharing of best practices on sturgeon aquaculture, including indicators for welfare with decent housing and water quality;
  • Build capacity in sturgeon culture techniques with a focus on different life stages and identify the challenges and actions for its implementation;
  • Strengthen capacity regarding sturgeon breeding to promote the production and use of associated tools;
  • Foster an understanding of key concepts and requirements related to care and risk management.
