Chinese importers have signed an agreement to buy 13.18 million tonnes of soybeans from the United States of America for a value of about USD 5.3 billion. The Chinese importers made actual purchases as well as signed contracts to be finalized in the future for the 2015/16 (September/August) marketing year, with a few exceptions for the 2016/17 (September/August) marketing year. The agreement confirms China’s status as the largest soybean importer in the world.
