The Government of Brazil announced in Late January that it will auction 500 000 tonnes of maize from its state reserves. The measure aims to boost supplies in the market after aggressive selling of maize in the past months linked to the strong depreciation of the national currency. The real weakened a further 4 percent in January 2016 after losing nearly 50 percent of its value over 2015.
