As of 15 January, the Government of Azerbaijan has exempted wheat, flour and bread from value added tax. The measure aims to reduce prices of these commodities that are supported by the weakness of the national currency. In December, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan abandoned its dollar peg and as a result, the national currency fell from AZN1.05 per USD 1 to AZN 1.55 per USD 1.
