Soil laboratories in Latin America and the Caribbean join forces: Strengthening capacities and improving standards

Representatives from approximately 60 soil laboratories across 23 different countries attended the Latin American Soil Laboratory Network (LATSOLAN). The gathering kicked off in Santiago de Chile on 8 April and continued with sessions in Chillán from 9 to 11 April. The workshop entitled “Pathways to precision in soil analysis: advancing soil laboratories in Latin America and the Caribbean” aimed to advance soil analysis in the region through collaborative efforts between LATSOLAN members.

Launch of a global Proficiency Test in Africa and the Near East and North Africa regions

The Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) has initiated a Proficiency Test (PT) exercise for monitoring the accuracy and precision of soil analysis in Africa and the Near East and North Africa (NENA) regions. This quality control exercise aims to assess the performance of soil laboratories across Sub-Saharan Africa, Near East, and North Africa. Around 90 soil laboratories from 47 countries in these regions have responded to GLOSOLAN’ invitation to participate in this regional inter-laboratory Proficiency Test (PT).

GLOSOLAN calendar 2024: capturing the essence of laboratory excellence

In a celebration of collaborative spirit, GLOSOLAN is thrilled to announce the release of its 2024 calendar. This unique calendar, specially curated for laboratories, is a visual feast, showcasing the activities and regional coverage within the GLOSOLAN community. The creation of the calendar started at the 7th GLOSOLAN meeting held from 21-23 November 2023, where the decision was made to immortalize the work of laboratories through the lens of its members.

GLOSOLAN Calendar 2024 - Call for Photos

As agreed during the 7th GLOSOLAN meeting (21-23 November 2023), GLOSOLAN is pleased to announce the production of a 2024 calendar, specially designed for laboratories. All you have to do is to submit a photo showcasing your laboratory activities. The call is now open, and you can send your high-resolution photo to [email protected] before 12th December 2023. All submissions will be meticulously reviewed by the GLOSOLAN steering committee.

Soil laboratory technicians joined efforts to improve the quality of soil data in sub-Saharan Africa

Over 70 soil laboratories technicians from 40 sub-Saharan countries convened in Dakar, Senegal, for a intensive week focused of practical training focused on quality control and soil analysis. The event, titled “raising confidence in quality measurements from soil laboratories in sub-Saharan Africa” was conducted in both English and French. It was enhanced by the participation of some of the world’s leading experts on soil analysis operating in Africa and in other regions to serve as trainers.

Strengthening soil analysis for evidence-based decision-making in Liberia

Farmers in Eastern Uganda will now have access to soil testing services, enabling them to determine the most suitable inputs, thanks to an assortment of modern laboratory equipment provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

FAO, China donate soil analysis equipment to ease access to farmers in Eastern Uganda

Farmers in Eastern Uganda will now have access to soil testing services, enabling them to determine the most suitable inputs, thanks to an assortment of modern laboratory equipment provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

GLOSOLAN at the core of the 17th International Symposium on Soil and Plant analysis in Chile!

Representatives of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) were invited to the 17th International Symposium on Soil and Plant Analysis (ISSPA) to present and share with the international scientific community the main achievements of the network over recent years, as well as to highlight the main needs of soil laboratories worldwide.

Members of the Belgian and Luxemburgish Soil Laboratory Network (BESOLAN) are organizing a webinar on topic of soil organic carbon monitoring, which will be organized on Tuesday 20th of June 2023 (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM CEST). This first webinar will be related to “soil organic carbon map” and is intended to be an acquaintance with different experts operating in the Brussels, Flemish, Luxembourg and Walloon Regions on the topic of soil organic carbon monitoring, as well as to enable exchange of information on technical aspects/issues of monitoring soil organic carbon (covering sampling, sample pre-treatment and determination) aimed at detecting soil organic carbon (SOC) concentration and stock changes..
