Pyrenean Soil Partnership
The Pyrenean Soil Partnership (ASPir) was established in May 2021, as a sub-regional soil partnership within the ESP, to share knowledge, experiences, awareness, commitment and interest in the soils of the Pyrenees.
Objectives
The objectives are to establish a network of entities and people for cross‑border cooperation in the field of soils, and to share knowledge, experiences, awareness, commitment, and interest in the soils of the Pyrenees. A specific objective is to ensure that soil information (maps and databases) is homogeneous across the entire mountain range. This enables the following objectives to be pursued:
- To identify the characteristics and location of the different soil types in the Pyrenees
- To determine the most appropriate management practices for different uses and situations
- To support the comparison and exchange of experiences between different territories on a well‑established basis
- To assess the organic carbon content of soils and their carbon sequestration capacity
- To enhance soils’ water retention and hydrological regulation capacity, as well as their resistance to degradation processes such as erosion, compaction, and leaching
- To disseminate information and actively involve the true managers of soils—namely farmers and foresters—as well as the administrations related to these activities, in the Alliance’s initiatives and training proposals To establish working groups to support the development and implementation of these objectives.
