Zambia has embraced community forestry (CF) as a strategy that places local communities at the heart of sustainable forest management. Since 2014, both government and non-state actors have supported Community Forestry (CF) initiatives that strengthen local governance of forest resources, improve local livelihoods, and protect ecosystems.

Forests cover around 75 per cent of Guinea-Bissau's land area, with more than half of it – 53% designated primarily for biodiversity conservation (FAO FRA 2025), confirming the recognition of its importance for people, livelihoods, and the environment. 

Across regions, forests are measured, mapped, and managed by people working in national forest services, universities, research institutes, and local projects. Their work ranges from field inventory to satellite data analysis, from emissions reporting to maintaining long-term forest information systems.
