Social forestry (SF) has been expanding in Southeast Asia for over 40 years. Between 2010 and 2024, the area under SF grew from 6.7 to over 15.3 million hectares. This growth has coincided with stronger legal frameworks that secure rights and deliver greater benefits to local tenure holders.

Across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), forests are increasingly recognised not only as vital ecosystems and a source of well-being for local communities but also as a key part of the region’s response to climate change, biodiversity loss, and rural poverty.

El pasado 27 de marzo de 2026 se llevó a cabo el taller regional “De la finca al consumidor: articulación para cadenas agroalimentarias resilientes, sostenibles y amigables con los bosques”, enfocado en la cadena de cacao en América Latina y el Caribe, en el marco del ciclo de webinars impulsado por el Programa ONU-REDD.

The Government of Papua New Guinea through the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) in partnership with The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), an accredited entity of the Green Climate Fund has launched a national inception workshop to initiate implementation of the Papua New Guinea Green Climate Fund (GCF) Results-Based Payment (RBP) Pilot Programme.

El 13 de marzo de 2026 inició el ciclo de webinars “De la finca al consumidor: articulación para cadenas agroalimentarias resilientes, sostenibles y amigables con los bosques”, organizada por el Programa ONU-REDD, una iniciativa conjunta de FAO, PNUD y PNUMA. La sesión inaugural estuvo dedicada al sector café, uno de los principales motores de desarrollo rural en América Latina y un cultivo estrechamente vinculado con los paisajes forestales de la región.

Sustainable agriculture and forests are mutually reinforcing pillars that support Africa’s long-term development. With agriculture central to the continent’s economies and projected population growth, strengthening agriculture–forestry linkages is increasingly recognized as a key transformation needed to enhance productivity, resilience, livelihood, and food security while reducing deforestation.

As the UN-REDD Programme enters its 2026–2030 strategic phase, strengthening transparency, integrity, and ambition in forest-based climate action has become more important than ever.

In the south-west of Côte d’Ivoire, coastal and mangrove forests meet the Atlantic Ocean in the San Pedro region - one of Côte d’Ivoire’s top tourist destinations, known for its wide, quiet beaches and proximity to protected areas. Tourists visit for the scenery, the wildlife, and the chance to see marine turtles lay eggs at night. These natural features make the region both ecologically and economically important. 

Colombia ha posicionado los bosques como un pilar central de su estrategia climática. Este compromiso se refleja en instrumentos clave de política pública como la Estrategia Nacional para la Reducción de las Emisiones por Deforestación y Degradación de los Bosques (ENREDD+), las Contribuciones Determinadas a Nivel Nacional (NDC), la Ley de Acción Climática y los reportes nacionales presentados ante la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático (CMNUCC). Alcanzar estas metas ambiciosas requiere no solo marcos de política robustos, sino también la capacidad de traducir los compromisos nacionales en acciones coordinadas en el territorio. 

With a strong commitment and shared vision, participants of the regional dialogue on forest-positive agriculture created an action-focused roadmap to accelerate country-owned solutions to address agriculture-linked deforestation in Africa.
