The scarcity of high-quality and timely agricultural data is a key constraint for Cambodia to effectively plan, finance, and implement agricultural development strategies.
With the goal of closing the agricultural data gap, Cambodia has been the first country in the region to receive FAO technical support, starting with the Cambodia Inter-Censal Agriculture Survey (CIAS) in 2019 and continuing on an annual basis thereafter under the Cambodia Agriculture Survey programme.
A total of over 100,000 interviews have been completed since the programme started, and the anonymized data from three survey rounds publicly disseminated to date.
Under the scope of the 50x2030 Initiative, the National Institute of Statistics and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries have progressively been able to scale up the production, dissemination and use of agricultural statistics as a solid foundation for improved policy and decision making in the agricultural sector. The programme has significantly contributed in strengthening the national agricultural statistical system. Noticeably, the knowledge, skills and know-how learned from FAO’s technical assistance have also successfully been applied to other national survey and censuses programmes.
