Establishing and implementing a sustainable national forest monitoring system (NFMS)

The webinar took place on 8 June 2021 as part of the massive open online course (MOOC) on ‘Forests and transparency under the Paris Agreement’.

The webinar objectives were to:

• strengthen knowledge on the importance of a sustainable and multi-purpose national forest monitoring system (NFMS);
• present the principles and elements of NFMS following the FAO’s Voluntary Guidelines on national forest monitoring;
• present the National Forest Monitoring System Assessment tool for supporting countries in identifying gaps and needs with regard to the establishment and functionality of NFMS;
• share countries experiences and lessons learned in the field of forest monitoring; and
• discuss with key international experts, and clarify topics covered in the previous modules of the MOOC.
