Activities
The project offered to countries following activities:
- Surveillance Evaluation Tool (SET) - Developed by FAO to provide countries with a comprehensive and standardized way to evaluate animal disease surveillance systems, including zoonoses.
- Laboratory Mapping Tool (LMT) - Developed by FAO to aid countries to assess their laboratory system, with a focus on the capacities of veterinary laboratories.
- Brucellosis expert missions – Missions conducted by an international brucellosis expert to assess countries’ existing National brucellosis control programs and develop tailored recommendations.
- Laboratory training - Closely linked to LMT, these trainings will initially focus on the diagnosis of brucellosis, depending on the country’s needs. Trainings on bacterial isolation, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods will also be planned to develop capacity for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance.
- The periodic STEB assessments – Day-to-day, periodical and transitional assessment of the regional approach on brucellosis control available to the countries. This tool has been jointly developed by FAO and CDC.
- CAAHN data sharing tool – FAO has developed a platform for CAAHN to share, consolidate and visualize animal health data via maps and graphs. For the moment, data collection efforts will focus on brucellosis (every three months), which is a high priority for Central Asia.
- Progressive Management Pathway for Antimicrobial Resistance (FAO-PMP-AMR) - Developed by FAO to provide countries with a comprehensive and standardized way to evaluate the progress of implementation of their National Action Plans on AMR (NAP AMR).
- Assessment Tool for Laboratories and AMR Surveillance Systems (FAO-ATLASS) - Developed by FAO to aid countries to assess the capacity of veterinary laboratories for doing AMR testing, and their national AMR surveillance systems for the food and agriculture sectors.
Disease-specific subnetworks:
- Subnetwork of diagnostics and surveillance in Avian Influenza and Newcastle disease
- One Health subnetwork on brucellosis
- Subnetwork on echinococcosis - Central Asian and Caucasian countries give high priority to control echinococcosis
Trainings:
- Online training on zoonoses for field veterinarians (in Russian) - This training aimed to strengthen the capacity of field veterinarians to monitor, notify, and respond to zoonotic threats (November 2025).
- Online training on One Health (in Russian) - The Quadripartite (FAO, WHO, WOAH and UNEP) launched this training for professionals across all One Health fields (January 2025).
- Open access online course on antimicrobial resistance (in Russian) - This open access training course helps to raise awareness about the causes and impact of AMR in food and agriculture (November 2023).
- Online training on avian influenza (in Russian) - This training was offered to public and private veterinarians who are directly involved in diagnosing, investigating and responding to an outbreak of avian influenza (December 2022).
- Regional training on brucellosis (in Russian) - This first laboratory training focuses on the theoretical and hands-on diagnosis of brucellosis by applying different methods recommended by international regulations (November 2021).
- African swine fever preparedness course (in Russian) - In this course, trainees progressed through seven interactive online modules covering topics on clinical and laboratory diagnosis of ASF, outbreak investigation, control measures, personal and farm biosecurity, and specifics of ASF management in wild boar (November 2021).
- Online Lumpy skin disease preparedness course (in Russian) – This 10-hour tutored course had six training modules that cover a range of topics, such as the overview of the disease, clinical and pathological diagnosis, sampling and laboratory diagnosis, epidemiology and outbreak investigation, surveillance, and control and eradication. (October – November 2020).
- Online training on laboratory diagnosis for poultry diseases (in Russian) - This FAO training held between 7-24 September 2020 aimed to provide participants an up-to-date information on poultry diseases and diagnostic procedures. The course materials are available here.
