2024 GBEP Youth Award Call for Papers

Are you currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree OR did you complete your studies and graduate in December 2023 or later, and are engaged in compelling research within the field of bioenergy? If so, the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) invites you to participate in the GBEP Youth Award 2024!

The winner of this prestigious award will be granted the opportunity to showcase their research at the 11th GBEP Bioenergy Week, to be held at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome.

Background

The GBEP Youth Award aims to recognize and promote outstanding research conducted by students in the field of bioenergy, covering various aspects such as environmental, social, and economic sustainability, circular bioeconomy, technologies, supply chain and logistics, societal practices, policy and strategies, and climate change.

This year, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to present her or his research and receive her/his award certificate during a special session at the first ever GBEP-YUNGA Bioenergy Youth Day, scheduled to take place during the 11th GBEP Bioenergy Week at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy on 17 June 2024. Additionally, the awardee will be given the chance to present her/his work at other relevant international events organized or co-organized by GBEP throughout 2024.

 

Application process

To apply, candidates must complete the application form and submit it via email to [email protected] along with the following requirements on or before 15 April 2024:

  • Curriculum vitae;
  • Documentation confirming the applicant's status as an officially enrolled student, including the institution supervising the research (certificate of enrollment) OR a certificate of graduation or completion for recent graduates;
  • A poster summarizing the research, which should provide a visual overview of the research context, methodology, results, conclusions, and its relevance to the broader research community.

Please note that posters must be legible when printed at A0 size (84.1 × 118.9 cm) and should include a blank white ribbon at the bottom measuring 10 cm. Posters will be evaluated based on the clarity of ideas presented.

 

Eligibility criteria and evaluation

Candidates should be a current Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD student at a recognized research institution or a recent graduate (only those who completed their research and graduated in December 2023 or later will be accepted).

Candidates should be within the age limit (at time of application) of 30 years old for bachelor and master students, and 35 years old for PhD students.

Applications will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Validity of results (25%)
  • Quality and clarity in the presentation of ideas (25%)
  • Degree of innovation (25%)
  • Relevance to the external scientific/development community (25%)

 

Selection process

15 April 2024

Application deadline. Applications received after this date will not be accepted.

April 2024

Evaluation of applications by a global panel of impartial experts.

01 May 2024

Conclusion of the selection procedure and notification of selected candidates.

June 2024

Posters of successful applicants will be showcased on the GBEP website and promoted through various related channels.
