Monitoring and Analysing Food and Agricultural Policies

Consultative workshop in Uganda

14/05/2013

The event was addressed by the Planning Commissioner, MAAIF, Director General, NARO, Deputy Executive Director, EPRC and Assistant to FAO Representative in Uganda. The workshop was attended by 68 participants from various government and non-governmental institutions including Office of the President, Uganda Bureau of Statistics, the National Planning Authority, Uganda Bureau of Statistics, East Africa Grain Council, National Farmers Federation, USAID and ActionAid, Uganda.

The project fits under FAO Uganda priority No. 1 – support to strategy, policy and planning, which is fully aligned to the DSIP priority area No. 3 – improving the enabling environment for agriculture development, as well as the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2010/14 priority area No. 2 – support to sustainable livelihoods, with focus on improved agricultural systems and employment opportunities.

During the discussion, the participants complimented the team effort to put these results together and the project findings were highly welcome as they provide evidence-based information to policy making. The analysis is perceived as highly relevant as bulk of these commodities (8/13) are priorities in the Non-ATAAS component of the Development Strategy and Investment Plan (DSIP). The Public Expenditure Analysis attracted a lively debate centered around the adequacy of the current funding to agriculture.
