Monitoring and Analysing Food and Agricultural Policies

Update on Burundi

10/11/2014

Public expenditure analysis along with price incentive analysis on 5 key commodities (tea, coffee, milk, rice and cotton) will kick off the first year of MAFAP’s work with Burundi. Capacity building of in-country teams will take place during the first months of 2015 and a broader set of commodities will be analysed in 2016.

Several development partners, among which IFAD, IMF and the World Bank, recently expressed high interest in the activities of MAFAP in Burundi.  The Office du Thé du Burundi (OTB) and the Agence de Régulation de la Filière Café (ARFIC) also offered to collaborate with MAFAP, especially on data collection.

MAFAP has also been presented at the Groupe Sectoriel Agriculture et Développement Rural, a platform bringing together major stakeholders involved in the agricultural sector (government, development partners, NGOs, etc.). The presentation attracted attention from various participants, including the Minister herself.
