Understanding the Forest-Water Nexus: Monitoring Framework Development Workshop

Stockholm, Sweden

The monitoring framework development workshop is an expert meeting by invitation. Participants will be selected from those who responded to the global survey, ensuring repsentation of different thematic areas, geographic regions, sectors and gender. The purpose of the workshop is to develop standardized indicators, variables and methods that can be incorporated into a monitoring tool for forest-water interactions.

The monitoring framework will be developed using a participatory approach, stocktaking indicators and methods used in research and the field. The framework will provide a foundation for developing and reporting on projects, improve our understanding of forest-water interactions, promote the development of improved field methodologies, provide data to better-inform practice and policies, and contribute to publications. Ultimately, the framework will provide a harmonized tool for decision makers to justify the inclusion of forest-water considerations in policy making and to quantify the benefits of forests in terms of water supply (yield and quality).

The workshop will contribute to the development of an open tool, which will be launched in 2017.
