International Day of Forests 2016

Every year since 2012, the International Day of Forests (IDF) is observed on 21 March to celebrate the ways in which forests and trees sustain and protect us. Countries and organizations are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns, and share these activities with FAO.

In 2016 the theme “Forests and Water” will celebrate the vital role of forests for water and food security. FAO will lead global celebrations by hosting an event in the Sheikh Zayed Centre showcasing the integral function of forests in the water cycle. The FAO IDF event will be linked to other official events around the globe, including the UN Headquarters in New York City.
