The project aims to strengthen the organizational and management capabilities of Indigenous Peoples by supporting subprojects developed by their communities and organizations. These actions aim to promote restoration, facilitate adaptation and mitigation processes, and improve forest knowledge and management. This component prioritizes initiatives that promote a forest economy to strengthen local governance and advance sustainable land management systems. Activities will align with the procedures established under the Vision Amazonia Program (PVA), especially those related to environmental governance with Indigenous Peoples. These procedures follow the agreements and consultation processes defined by the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development and OPIAC and validated by Indigenous authorities.

Coverage: Colombian Amazon

The GCF-Visión Amazonía Project seeks to strengthen territorial governance and the capacities of Indigenous Peoples for the sustainable management and conservation of forests in the colombian Amazon. This line of work recognizes the fundamental role of Indigenous territories in protecting forests and reducing deforestation.

Within this framework, the project supports initiatives led by indigenous organizations and communities that contribute to improving the management of territories, strengthening their organizational structures, and promoting the development of sustainable forest economies. These actions seek to consolidate forest management models that integrate traditional knowledge, biodiversity conservation, and community well-being.

The activities are implemented in coordination with the environmental governance pillar of Pueblos Indígenas de Visión Amazonía (PIVA), through public calls for proposals that allow for the selection and support of projects submitted by indigenous organizations.

The prioritized projects are aimed at strengthening community capacities and supporting initiatives in five main areas: territory and environment, indigenous self-government, sustainable economy and production, empowerment of indigenous women, and cross-cutting issues that contribute to sustainable forest management.

In addition, the project promotes the active participation of indigenous women and the development of initiatives that strengthen.
