Bioinformatics workshop
Jakarta (Indonesia), 21/10/2025 - 22/10/2025
Since 2021, DIC Wates has conducted annual bioinformatics training courses focusing on Avian Influenza (AI) sequence analysis and evolutionary relationships among AI viruses. Alongside AI, animal disease priority diseases like African Swine Fever (ASF) has posed major challenges to livestock production and caused greater economic lossess. However, genomic characterization of ASF remains limited, which hampers understanding of its evolutionary dynamics. Substantial molecular changes in the virus could potentially expand its host range, increasing the risk of spread to all regions in Indonesia. Therefore, genome-based analysis of ASF is critical for animal health workers to give better understand their viral dynamics and mitigate their impact.
Based on the IVM Networking Meeting in June 2025, it was observed that no data from African Swine Fever has been submitted onto the IVM Online platform, suggesting a broader capacity gap in uploading and managing sequence data. Therefore, the main objective of this workshop is to train national animal health laboratories personnel on uploading African Swine Fever sequences into the IVM Online platform, including generating phylogenetic trees and performing data quality checks before submission, thereby strengthening both national and regional data sharing.
