This study identifies agrifood system interventions with high transformational potential for Indonesia by utilizing the MIRAGRODEP a multi-region, multisector computable general equilibrium model to analyze policy scenarios. Our findings reveal a range of economic, social, and environmental impacts. Initiatives such as social safety nets and food stamps can enhance affordability, while repurposing farm subsidies can improve socio-economic sustainability.

A study of shark and ray non-fin commodities in Indonesia

The work presented here summarizes published research from Indonesia, also linked to an FAO summary, plus studies from India, Indonesia and Peru. In collaboration with various country programmes and local research groups, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) examined shark and ray value chains.

Indonesia has made significant strides in reducing poverty since the economic crisis and political transformation of 1997-1998. The percentage of its 230 million people living in poverty fell from 16.7 percent in 2004 to 14.15 percent in 2009. Since 2009, Indonesia has been classified as a lower middle-income country. Steady progress is being made to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Lombok Tengah District is one of the regions in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province of Indonesia, which has a high diversity of marine resources including lobster resources. It is situated in southern coast of NTB, and part of Fisheries Management Area (FMA) 573. However, the utilization of lobster resources has not been carried out properly, following the principles of sustainable fisheries i.e. prohibited fishing gear operations, catching immature size and other irresponsible violations.

The Indonesian poultry industry is a key sector for the national economy, supplying 65% of all animal protein and employing 10% of the national labor force. All over the country, though local production successfully copes with domestic demand, the potential for growth is high, consistent with expectations of rising GDP per capita. The market looks healthy and attractive, which has resulted in this gradual entry of new foreign groups.

Developing the Layer Farm Assessment Tool (LFAT): Improving biosecurity and management in commercial layer farms in Indonesia

Good management and biosecurity can also provide positive environmental outcomes and maintain the health and financial viability of farm owners and workers. In response to this, the FAO ECTAD Indonesia and the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health Services (DGLAHS) developed a tool to assess the management of small to medium size layer farms.
