FAO’s Global Forest Resources Assessment 2025
(Indonesia), 03/02/2025 - 11/02/2025
Indonesia has actively contributed to FRA through previous Remote Sensing Workshops.
Since 1990, assessments have been published every five years to provide insights into forest area, trends and sustainable management practices. A key development in this process is the inclusion of the Remote Sensing Surveys (RSS), which complements the data reported by countries and improves monitoring accuracy through satellite imagery. The assessment of 2020, for instance, used a participatory global remote sensing survey to derive independent estimates of forest area changes and enhance technical capacity, especially in developing countries.
FRA 2025 will continue to examine over 60 forest-related variables across 236 countries and territories from 1990 to 2025. This cycle also introduces a more streamlined reporting process to enhance efficiency and reduce the reporting burden on countries.
