Field visit to Kawali Village

Indonesia’s Smart Fisheries Village (SFV) programme, launched in 2022 by the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development (AMFEHRD/BPPSDM KP) of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF/KKP). It seeks to transform traditional fisheries communities into modern, productive hubs aligned with the country’s Blue Economy vision. The programme is built on five principles—Sustainability, Modernization, Acceleration, Regeneration, and Technology—and operates through regional Technical Implementing Units (TIUs) and local SFV villages.

The Cibalagung TIU serves as a flagship hub hosted by the Freshwater Aquaculture Research and Fisheries Extension Center in Bogor, West Java. It currently supports four SFV villa among other Kawali village in Ciamis District which engaged in small-scale tilapia hatchery and farming,

Some activities including capacity building and demonstration of tilapia hatchery would be organized on Kawali Village. However, information on the presence facilities and tilapia culture in the village remained limited and need to be validated to ensure its alignment with the planned activities under the project.
