Monitoring and evaluation - the implementation of decontamination guidelines

Cilacap (Indonesia), 09/01/2025 - 10/01/2025

Decontamination is a vital preventive measure to mitigate the transmission of TADs. It involves removing or neutralizing pathogens from surfaces, equipment, and environments, ensuring the health of animals, humans, and ecosystems. As part of TCP/INS/3906, decontamination guidelines were developed and introduced through a Training of Trainers (TOT) from August 5-7, 2024, at key quarantine facilities.

Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) are essential to ensure the effectiveness of these guidelines. Monitoring provides real-time data on field compliance, while evaluation assesses implementation outcomes, identifies challenges, and supports continuous improvement. The focus is on ensuring that decontamination practices align with quarantine measures, keeping transported commodities free of contaminants, and enhancing staff competency.

This M&E process will reinforce Indonesia’s animal disease control and biosecurity systems, supporting the One Health approach and demonstrating a commitment to high standards in animal health management.
