Stakeholder workshop on global action plan on aquatic genetic resources

Since the project start, a country assessment was prepared by a national consultant on current policies, practices, infrastructure and resources for the management of AqGR. An inception workshop was also held in October 2023 with national stakeholders and a separate meeting was held by FAO with representatives from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF). The inception workshop decided, among the things, to hold two virtual stakeholder workshops to review the strategic priorities for priority areas 2 (conservation and sustainable use), 3 (development of AqGR for aquaculture) and 4 (policies, institutions and capacity building) of the FAO Global Plan of Action for the for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (Global Plan of Action). Feedback from the workshops will be critical for the preparation of the national strategy.
