Workshop and data collection activity supporting Indonesia's forest resources monitoring

(Indonesia), 11/08/2025 - 22/08/2025

The Indonesia pilot will be implemented within the framework of SIMONTANA, the National Forest Monitoring System, building on Indonesia’s institutional arrangements and leveraging FAO’s experience with Open Foris tools and Collect Earth Online campaigns. This activity aims to test the operational feasibility of TFFF’s monitoring approach, ensuring alignment with both international good practice and Indonesia’s national forest definition.

The pilot will involve sampling and validation of satellite-based forest change detection, focusing on deforestation and degradation for the period 2021–2024. Both deforestation and forest degradation will be derived using national datasets hosted by the SIMONTANA system and will help to stratify the samples used to undertake the pilot assessment. Outcomes will include TFFF-compliant datasets, accuracy assessment results, and methodological recommendations for integration into the TFFF Operations Manual.
