The FAO's International Plan of Action for Reducing Incidental Catch of Seabirds in Longline Fisheries (IPOA-Seabirds) is a voluntary
instrument of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (FAO 1999). It was adopted by FAO members in 1999 in response to a growing body of scientific evidence showing alarming levels of incidental bycatch of seabirds in longline fisheries.
Our Objectives
The objective of the IPOA-SEABIRDS is to reduce the incidental catch of seabirds in longline fisheries where this occurs.
