FAO assists Côte d’Ivoire to implement the PSMA and combat IUU fishing

10/10/2022

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is currently assisting Côte d’Ivoire to strengthen its technical capacity to prevent, deter, and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing

Under the project GCP/INT/413/EC, through a two days workshop, FAO is currently working in Abidjan together with 30 participants from the national working group for the fight against IUU fishing, to assist national authorities in updating their national plan of action to fight IUU fishing.

The workshop will be followed by a three days' discussion together with participants from the Fisheries Ministry on identifying criteria to assess the risk of IUU fishing vessels willing to access the ports of Côte d’Ivoire and elaborating a regulation which will assist the country to better implement the FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA).

Côte d’Ivoire is a Party to the PSMA since 2019.
