About the Joint Programme
The Joint Programme on Gender Transformative Approaches for Food Security, Improved Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture (JP GTA) was launched in response to a call at the 2016 High-level Event “Step It Up Together with Rural Women to End Hunger and Poverty” to promote transformative approaches to tackle the underlying social and behavioural causes of gender inequalities.
By shifting the political, institutional and socio-cultural status quo towards gender equality and women’s empowerment, the JP GTA seeks to contribute to ending poverty and hunger, in line with the ambitious vision of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The JP GTA focuses on increasing the effectiveness of the Rome-based Agencies – FAO, IFAD and WFP – to realize food security, improved nutrition and sustainable agriculture by tackling the root causes of gender discrimination and triggering transformative change processes that lead to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
It aims to contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) by supporting the Rome-based Agencies to embed gender transformative approaches in their policy dialogues, programmes, working modalities and institutional culture, and enhancing their collaboration on zero hunger and gender equality.
Expected results:
- Tested theory of change for gender transformative programming in agriculture, food security and nutrition and a minimum set of indicators for monitoring;
- Strengthened competency in integrating gender transformative approaches in policy engagement and programmes and projects;
- Institutional mindset shift within each of the Rome-based Agencies to engage with gender transformative approaches;
- Enhanced collaboration and synergies among the Rome-based Agencies around gender transformative approaches.
