Sustainable agriculture in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have maintained a robust partnership since the country officially joined the organization in November 1997. This collaboration reached a significant milestone in May 2015 with the signing of the Host Country Agreement (HCA), which led to the official opening of our Partnership and Liaison Office in 2016.
Operations are primarily guided by the FAO-Kazakhstan Partnership Programme (FKPP). This strategic framework ensures long-term collaboration on national and regional agricultural priorities. Expansion is currently underway through a new partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to address sustainable water management across Central Asia.
FAO in Kazakhstan implements a diverse portfolio of projects supporting sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate resilience in close partnership with national stakeholders. FAO’s work focuses on integrated themes such as sustainable land and water management, climate-smart and green agriculture, biodiversity and ecosystem restoration, animal and plant health, food systems and nutrition, rural livelihoods, youth engagement, and digital and policy innovation. Through technical assistance, capacity building, and pilot initiatives, FAO contributes to long-term national priorities and sustainable development goals.
