FAO in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan became a member of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in November 1997. Cooperation was significantly strengthened in May 2015 with the signing of the Host Country Agreement to establish the FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Kazakhstan, which opened in 2016.
This partnership supports a wide range of projects, including sustainable land and water management, disposal of obsolete pesticides and chemical waste, zoonotic disease preparedness under the One Health approach, and a national healthy school nutrition program.
FAO Priorities in Kazakhstan
FAO’s engagement in Kazakhstan is implemented within the broader framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for Kazakhstan 2026–2030, which defines the collective strategic direction of the United Nations system in support of national development priorities. FAO’s work in the country is aligned with the FAO Strategic Framework for 2022–2031, ensuring coherence between FAO’s global mandate and its contributions to UN system-wide efforts in Kazakhstan.
