Agriculture and climate change are two key priorities for Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors are of vital socio-economic importance to Pacific SIDS, as they underpin the livelihoods of a significant proportion of the region’s population.
Event objectives:
- Raise awareness on the urgent need to improve agricultural soil carbon and health, highlighting the situation of the Pacific SIDS.
- Introduce science-based and feasible options and discuss ways forward for the region.
- Enhance knowledge and capacities of key stakeholders (technical experts, policy makers and development partners etc.) on measurement of soil carbon and health, and how it could contribute to climate targets including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
