FAO Mongolia Office

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has a history of partnership with the Government of Mongolia (GoM), to eradicate poverty and malnutrition through the development of the agriculture sector. It has, also, been an active partner of the government in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development and disaster risk management strategies of the country.

Qingyun Diao, FAO Representative in Mongolia

Ms. Qingyun Diao has been serving as the FAO Representative in Mongolia since June 2025.

Ms. Diao is a professional with extensive experience in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development, combining scientific leadership with diplomatic and policy expertise. Prior to her current role, she served as FAO Representative in Namibia from 2023 to 2025, supporting national policies and programs to enhance food security, reduce hunger and malnutrition, and promote sustainable management of agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and natural resources.

From 2018 to 2023, she was First Secretary and Chief of the Agricultural Office at the Embassy of China in Mexico, becoming China’s first agricultural diplomat. She successfully promoted bilateral cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, and related sectors, building strong relationships with government agencies, local institutions, and associations.

Before her diplomatic career, Ms. Diao held senior scientific leadership positions at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), serving as Chief Scientist (2015–2021) and Director of International Cooperation Projects (2014–2022) at the Institute of Apicultural Research. She led innovation initiatives and international partnerships that received national recognition and positioned her team among CAAS’s top Women Pacesetter Groups.

Ms. Diao holds a PhD and MSc in Entomology from China Agricultural University and a BSc in Entomology from Beijing Agricultural University.
