As northern Mozambique continues to grapple with the combined impacts of conflict, displacement and climate shocks, FAO is stepping up efforts to support vulnerable communities. In Cabo Delgado, where nearly 541 400 people remain displaced and 576 280 returnees strive to rebuild their lives, many families have lost access to their agricultural land, assets and food sources.

In Sofala Province, central Mozambique, the districts of Maringué and Guro were among the hardest hit by the 2023 El Niño-induced drought. Failed harvests, erratic rainfall, and prolonged dry spells led to a steep decline in maize and sorghum production, pushing thousands of farming families deeper into food insecurity.
