Nutrición

Capacity development activities (2010-2015)

To achieve common understanding, facilitate joint action and leverage on inter-sectoral and inter-institutional synergies, FAO supports capacity development workshops for nutrition, bringing together professionals from different disciplines and organisations, at local or regional level. FAO capacity development workshops for nutrition provide:

  • a bottom-up and participatory approach,
  • transversal sharing of experience and good practices,
  • learning across countries and organisations,
  • methods, tools and reference materials,
  • the support of technical experts.

Nutrition-sensitive planning & investments in food and agriculture

Improvements in agricultural production and productivity, and even in food security, do not automatically translate in improved nutritional outcomes, and can even have negative impacts on nutrition. FAO supports the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the African Union Commission (AUC) in strengthening African countries’ capacity to integrate nutrition in agriculture planning, investments and programmes, through the CAADP nutrition workshops.

Joint planning for nutrition

Experience shows that a coordinated approach results in a stronger impact. There is a need to strengthen the capacity of professionals working in development and emergencies to work together. Read more about the West Africa experience.

Nutrition and resilience

Every year, huge efforts are made to tackle food insecurity in countries facing economic, social, political and natural crises. In an effort to improve programme quality and effectiveness of food security programming in crisis, FAO is implementing an ECHO funded capacity building project for improved food security response, which concentrates on four key aspects: seeds, accountability, resilience and nutrition.

The project focuses on crisis-prone countries in the Sahel (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger) and the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South-Sudan). Find out more on this project and access documentation and events' announcements: go to the project page.
