The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is actively engaged in supporting Oman's national priorities in agriculture, food security, and climate resilience. Our projects address a range of areas, from building resilience against climate related threats like droughts and floods to promoting sustainable farming practices and smart water harvesting for sustainable food systems. Overall, FAO's projects in Oman and in collaboration with stakeholders aim to improve food security, enhance livelihoods, and promote more robust agrifood systems.

FAO Oman Fund Mobilization Success Story

FAO Oman has achieved remarkable success in mobilizing funds to support rural women in Rakhyut, Dhofar. The initiative focuses on enhancing the value chain of camel milk and its transformation into cheese, providing economic empowerment to the local women. The project has garnered additional funding from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR), ensuring its sustainability beyond the initial closure date. This collaborative effort highlights the significant impact of strategic partnerships in fostering community development and economic growth.

In addition to the camel milk project, FAO Oman has successfully mobilized funds from Oman India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO) to support an apiculture capacity-building project. This initiative aims to enhance beekeeping skills and practices among local communities, contributing to sustainable livelihoods. The project has also attracted further support from China's South-South Cooperation (SSC), demonstrating the global interest and commitment to advancing agricultural development in Oman. These efforts underscore FAO Oman's dedication to empowering rural communities through innovative and sustainable projects.
