New annual FAO Awards acknowledge progress in achieving FAO's objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Hybrid Event, 01/03/2022

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has the pleasure to inform its Members that the new set of FAO Awards, endorsed at the 42nd FAO Conference has been officially launched.

The new annual FAO Awards acknowledge progress in achieving FAO's objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Awards are open to individuals, organizations, governments, foundations, academia or private sector leaders across the world.

We want to hear successful stories of agri-food systems transformation, advocating for change, or bringing about a chain reaction towards better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life. Celebrate the efforts of individuals or institutions that are taking concrete steps towards building a sustainable food secure future for all and submit an application to the Awards Secretariat.

The new annual FAO Awards will consist of the most prestigious, high profile FAO Champion Award and four additional and fixed categories: partnership, achievement, innovation, and employees.

Nominations are open for the main high-profile FAO Champion Award and for the FAO Partnership Award:

FAO Champion Award

The Champion Award is FAO’s highest honour and most prestigious Award. It recognises outstanding leaders from governments, civil society and the private sector whose actions have a transformative impact towards increased food security and achieving the 2030 Agenda, making sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. The monetary value of the Award is USD 50 000.

We are looking for examples of excellence from high profile candidates. Contributions from all FAO regions and as many FAO country offices as possible are encouraged.

FAO Partnership Award

A successful sustainable development agenda requires strong global partnerships and cooperation between governments, the private sector, civil society and academia. The objective of this Award is to recognize and reward the efforts of noteworthy and effective partnerships that contribute to achieving sustainable development. The monetary value of the Award is USD 10 000 per awardee.

More information is included in the terms and conditions and the application form can be downloaded from the website.

We would be grateful for your support to promote the award as much as possible before the call closes on 1 March 2022.

The announcement of the winners will celebrated during a ceremony at the margins of the 169th FAO Council.
