Technical Platform on the Measurement and Reduction of Food Loss and Waste

COAG side event: food loss analysis methodology (Oct. 3 - webcasted in three languages)

01/10/2018

At the 26th Session of the FAO Committee on Agriculture the UN Rome-based agencies in collaboration with the Permanent Representation of Switzerland to FAO, IFAD and WFP have organized a side event.

SDG 12.3 calls for, halving per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reducing food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses, by 2030.

Reducing the high levels of post-harvest losses of small holders in food deficit areas, necessitates identifying the critical loss points in food supply chains and the underlying causes of these losses, as a basis for identifying, introducing and piloting solutions that are technically, economically and socially feasible with smallholders.

This online training course was developed in the framework of the joint Rome-based Agencies’ project, titled “Mainstreaming food loss reduction initiatives for smallholders in food deficit areas” supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It responds to the need for a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to analyze the causes of food loss along supply chains, as a basis for identifying solutions that are technically, economically and socially meaningful. It builds on the results and feedback from more than eighty case studies carried out in different countries.

The "Reducing Food Losses: The Food Loss Analysis Methodology" side event will be held on Wednesday 3 October 2018, 18:00-19:30 hrs (Iran room).
