The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) held an engaging regional webinar highlighting the critical role of rural advisory services (RAS) and agricultural education in unlocking employment opportunities for youth in the region.

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen resilience and promote inclusive rural development, the Arab Forum for Rural Advisory Services (AFRAS) convened a regional webinar titled “Rural Advisory Services in Times of Crisis: Collective Efforts for Rehabilitation and Building Resilience in the NENA Region.”

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) virtually convened a virtual roundtable to enhance strategic dialogue between governments and cooperatives. 

The meeting aims to improve the enabling environment for cooperative development, enhance their capacities to transform rural and agrifood systems, and contribute to food security, nutrition, and sustainable development in the Near East and North Africa region.

 Experts from the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and government officials from 12 Arab countries concluded the activities of the first regional forum on the future of Farmer Field Schools for sustainable agricultural and food systems, which was held for two days in Minya, Egypt.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Regional Office for the Near East organizes a regional forum on “The Future of Farmers' Field schools” for Sustainable Agrifood Systems in the Near East and North Africa in Minya, Egypt. The Forum will take place over two days, from 29 to 30 May 2023, with the attendance of 60 participants including government representatives, FFS practitioners, facilitators and experts from countries in the NENA region, where Egyptian FFS farmers will share their own experiences during the forum.

The Government of the Sultanate of Oman recognizes the vital role of agricultural extension and related support services and thus constantly strives to reinvent and align it to the needs of the market. In this context, the “Strengthening Extension and Support services system” project was launched in 2019, with the aim of enhancing the market orientation of extension and related support services to contribute to increasing productivity, profitability, and improving livelihoods of small- and medium scale men and women producers in line with the national development priorities in Oman.
