Activities

Founded in 2008, the “Alysh Dan” cooperative brings together 63 family farmers managing 127 hectares of apricot orchards in Kyrgyzstan’s Batken region. The cooperative focuses on the sustainable production and value-added processing of dried apricots, contributing to rural development and economic resilience in the region.

Description of the practice:
The cooperative has significantly advanced its operations by constructing a 750 m² trade and logistics center on a 45-acre plot of land and launching three specialized processing lines:

  • Line 1 (USAID-supported): Handles washing, cleaning, drying, and calibrating apricots.

  • Line 2 (supported by WFP Kyrgyzstan): Extracts kernels from apricot pits and produces apricot oil.

  • Line 3 (ARIS-supported): Focuses on sherbet production and includes a cooling line, two refrigerators, and a tractor to assist in apricot harvesting.

In 2024, the cooperative processed 18 tons of dried apricots and finalized construction of the logistics center. It sells its products through eco-stores in Bishkek and the “One Village One Product” retail network, while actively seeking access to international markets.

Other activities:

  • Establishment of a fully equipped trade and logistics center

  • Introduction of value-added processing (including oil and sherbet production)

  • Strategic investment from international development organizations

  • Market linkages through eco-retail networks and promotional efforts

Impact
  • Increased income for apricot farmers in Batken
  • Improved quality and diversification of apricot-based products
  • Strengthened rural infrastructure and job creation
  • Enhanced capacity for future export and market expansion
