FAO held its Rome Water Dialogue, a special event on the road to the UN 2023 Water Conference, in Rome, Italy on 29 November 2022. The event aimed to discuss the contributions of the National Water Roadmap initiative toward achieving global commitments and the SDGs at the national level. It was also an opportunity to discuss innovative solutions and actions for sustainability, water, and food security.

A new, long-awaited plan of action through 2030 has been approved by the Fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, which took place in December 2022 in Montreal, Canada. Around 16 000 participants attended the conference, representing nearly 200 governments, United Nations and international organizations, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the private sector.

As the warming trend continues, exceptional heat, wildfires, floods and other climate change impacts will affect society, economies and ecosystems, according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
