Assessing fuel needs in camps for IDPs and surrounding communities in Myanmar

Apr 2015

An FAO mission was organized to assess household fuel needs, cooking technologies, cooking practices and related challenges in crisis-affected areas of Rakhine State in Myanmar. The assessment team carried out interviews and focus group discussions with respondents who are faced with tremendous challenges in ensuring access to cooking fuel, including increasing pressure on forest resources as a result of woodfuel sourcing, undercooking of food and selling of rations to buy fuel, fire risks and indoor air pollution due to indoor cooking on open fires and protection risks when collecting sources of fuel around camps and villages.

This assessment is part of FAO's work on Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE).
