Scientist S Velvizhi is on a mission to minimise the damage shrimp trawlers do to our marine resources. She is braving all odds, not least the privations of sailing on a tiny boat, to be part of a team studying the effectives of various devices that reduce “bycatch”, the endangered species such as turtles and juvenile fish that get caught in the nets of the shrimp trawlers.
