FAO in Sierra Leone
FAO works to get at the root causes of hunger. Its mandate is to raise levels of nutrition, improve sustainable agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations, and contribute to the growth of the world economy. Since 1978, FAO has been operational in Sierra Leone. Throughout this period, it has carried out many interventions in the food and agricultural sector that have helped, to a large extent, alleviate hunger, food insecurity and agricultural practice.
FAO continues to be an important provider of technical support to Government of Sierra Leone and strong collaborator with other UN agencies, NGOs, civil society, and rural communities with a focus on eliminating hunger, improving food security and achieving sustainable agriculture through improved farming methods and protection of the environment.
