Report of the Inception Workshop of FAO Global Project: Promotion of One Country One Priority Product Initiative through the FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme

This report captures the proceedings of the Inception Workshop of the FAO Global Project Promotion of One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative through the FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme (SSC), held from 8 to 10 July 2025. This event marked a pivotal step in the global implementation of the OCOP initiative – a flagship programme of FAO aimed at promoting the sustainable development of special agricultural products (SAPs) for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.The inception workshop brought together OCOP national focal points from 18 demonstration countries, participants from FAO regional offices, technical experts from leading Chinese institutions, and development partners to collectively reflect on the progress achieved, exchange lessons learned, and jointly chart pathways for the next phase of the OCOP implementation. The event highlighted the importance of sustainable value chain of special agricultural products in building inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems.

South-South Cooperation for Sustainable Land Management and Ecosystem Restoration

An online survey and a series of workshops were organized in 2022 to assess demand and expertise for South-South Cooperation (SSC) about Sustainable Land Management (SLM) and Ecosystems Restoration (ER). Three regions were selected: Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Central Asia (CA) and Near East and North Africa (NENA). The knowledge brief sets out the case for investment in SSC in the context of SLM and ER.

Women and youth make up 50–70 percent of the sector's economically active population. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is supporting the capacity development of farmers and institutions.

The study is a joint effort between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Agripreneurship Alliance. Compost as solid waste management in Jordan

Zaatari Refugee Camp (ZRC), in Northern Jordan, is the seventh-largest refugee camp globally, and it hosts around 80 000 Syrian refugees. This new population generates 34 metric tons (MT) of waste, which is collected and trucked out of the camp daily. Disposing the solid waste has become one of the most serious environmental problems in Jordan, with much of its waste ending up in landfill.

FAO’s work on south–south and triangular cooperation in Sub-Saharan Africa

For more than 25 years, FAO has been successfully facilitating South–South exchanges of cost-effective experiences and technical know-how, relevant to local conditions. The aim is to strengthen food security and nutrition. FAO has also supported African governments to set up their own unilateral trust funds to finance South – South Cooperation initiatives in their countries, such as Nigeria and Angola.

This publication outlines key features of South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) and how FAO has applied SSTC to the delivery of its mission. The case studies presented provide a window on how SSTC has contributed to alleviating hunger and malnutrition in countries across the global South and has helped build resilience in the face of climate change and other development challenges. The lessons learned from these experiences are feeding into the new FAO SSTC Guidelines for Action (2022–2025) and will guide FAO's future results-based SSTC programmes.
