World Food Day Horse Race to take place on 15 October

Ankara, Turkey, 15/10/2020

The World Food Day Horse Race is a traditional event in Turkey. Each year the Jockey Club of Turkey dedicates one of its races to World Food Day to raise awareness of key issues related to food and hunger. This year, the race will take place on Thursday, 15 October leading up to events for World Food Day on Friday, 16 October 2020, which are being held against the backdrop of celebrations for FAO’s 75th anniversary.

World Food Day is one of the most celebrated events in the United Nations calendar. Activities are organized in more than 150 countries to accelerate efforts towards the eradication of hunger and alleviate suffering from hunger worldwide – and to raise awareness of the importance of a balanced diet.

This year’s theme – “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our actions are our future” – has assumed even more importance in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which reminds us of the vitality of food, the importance of agriculture and the need to protect our natural resources.

Ahead of the World Food Day Horse Race, we wish good luck to all thoroughbreds and their owners. For updated information, check this website before the event: www.fao.org/turkey/events/en
