The meeting will provide an overview of the impact so far of the 2015 – 2016 El Niño on agriculture and food security and nutrition in East and Southern Africa and Asia and the Pacific and will highlight critical resource needs.

Looking ahead to the increasingly likely La Niña, the event provides an opportunity to reach a shared understanding of key early actions which can reduce negative impacts and capitalize on potential positive ones arising from this phenomenon.
