Webinars | Banana industry good practices

The World Banana Forum, in conjunction with its members, partners and collaborators, is pleased to announce a series of webinars exploring banana industry best practices, dealing with several stages of the value chain. The webinars will look at the efforts made by farmers, companies, civil society organizations and other industry stakeholders towards adopting practices designed to fulfil obligations to the environment and the lives of its workforce and communities.

Experiences of the organic banana production chain: The case of Solidaridad in Peru and Banelino in the Dominican Republic

Gustavo Gandini – Banelino (Manager-Department of Organic Agriculture, Biodiversity and Environment)

Banelino is an association of banana producers that represents 317 small producers in the Northwest Line of the Dominican Republic (Montecristi and Valverde provinces). The association's producers work for good management of natural resources, conservation of the environment and fair prices to improve living conditions for families and communities.

Diego Balarezo – Solidaridad (Fruit Manager - Peru)

Solidaridad is an international non-profit organization with more than 45 years of experience working for the sustainability of commodity supply chains. In Peru, Solidaridad works with the organic banana production chain through its Fruit Program, involving main stakeholders of the chain in a more efficient, resilient and responsible agricultural productions.

Participation of banana companies and producers in Fusarium R4T prevention and exclusion strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean

The International Regional Agency for Agricultural Health (OIRSA) is an intergovernmental institution specializing in agro-food sanitation to provide technical and financial cooperation to the Ministries and Secretariats of Agriculture and Livestock of its nine member states. OIRSA has developed a Contingency Plan with preventive measures against a possible outbreak of Fusarium TR4 in Latin America. Panelists are part of the Latin American Comando on Fusarium TR4.
